About / Importance –
This is the site where some sandstone pillars were found as the only remains of the one of the ancient great capital city, Pataliputra. The large Ashokan pillars are the reminders of the glory of Mauryan dynasty and the capital of Magadha Empire, around 250 BCE. King of Magadha, Ajatashatru shifted his capital from Rajgriha to Pataliputra around 600 BCE. It continued to be the capital till about 600 CE.

Presently one pillar is kept in a small shed in the park that is designed as a public space for the citizens.
