The large rectangular structure constructed with stone blocks can be seen at the right side while walking up the stairway towards Saptaparni caves at the Vaibhara hill. In the Mahabharata epic Jarasandha is mentioned as a tyrant king who is connected to some of the places by popular mythical tales. It is believed traditionally that this place was Jarasandha’s meeting place to discuss the royal matters thus the name of this place acquired this name as the meeting place of Jarasandh.
In Buddhist tradition this place is referred as Pippala cave believed to be the meditation place of Buddha and its mention is found in Zuanzang’s travelogue. There is also a belief that Maha Kassapa, the chief disciple of Buddha lived here.
However, according to some hypothesis it could be a watch tower and part of the cyclopean wall around this ancient fortified city of ancient Rajgir.
