About/ Importance - This temple is famous for the belief as the birthplace of Sita, the daughter of the King Janaka and wife of Sri Ram from the legendary epic Ramamyana. The myth goes as the king Janaka started ploughing the field to eradicate famine he found Sita as a new born at the tip of the shovel. Thus the Ramayana depicts Sita as the daughter of Mother Earth.
View & Feel - This temple had been reconstructed in recent years and depicts a fairly modern architecture. There is a beautiful garden in front of the temple and a large tank with concrete staircase around its four sides for the devotees to perform rituals of panchkarma.
The auspicious occasion of Sita’s birth, Janki Navami which falls after a month of Ram Navami in the month of Chaith is celebrated at this place. The event of her marriage to Sri Ram is also celebrated as the Vivah Panchami . Life size idols of all the mythical characters are built in clay for this major occasion.
